Colleen-Matt > This marmot kept following us.

Marmots are generally large ground squirrels. Those most often referred to as marmots tend to live in mountainous areas such as the Sierra Nevada in the United States or the European Alps. However the groundhog is also properly called a marmot, while the similarly-sized but more social prairie dog is not classified in the genus Marmota but in the related genus Cynomys.

Colleen-Matt > The elk, or wapiti (Cervus canadensis), is the second largest species of deer in the world, and one of the largest mammals in North America and eastern Asia. They are almost identical to red deer found in Europe, and were long believed to be subspecies of each other, though they have recently been determined to be distinct based on DNA evidence. In the deer family, only the moose, which is called an "elk" in Europe, is larger.
